The Bible is pretty old.
The texts were written at least 2,000 years ago, written about people who lived incredibly different lives to us.
And it's easy to consider the Bible as a book of stories - impressive tales about how God worked in peoples lives that don't apply anymore.
On Sunday, Tom read a scripture from the Old Testament about Moses, one of the most well-known characters in the Bible.
In Exodus 33, Moses' relationship with God is highlighted.
Exodus 33:9-11: And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses. And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door. And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend.
This scripture is amazing - that Moses had such a close relationship with God that they could speak directly to one another.
And you could easily dismiss this story as something that happened thousands of years ago, to someone completely different to you.
Except that's not the end of the Bible.
Instead, God has promised that He will have a personal relationship with us.
In the Bible, it also says God will give us the Comforter - the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. This means we will can have a relationship with God even today.
It means we can rely on God and pray to Him - and He will look after us and bless our lives.
Acts 3:25 Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
The Bible may be thousands of years old, but the promises God made then are as true as ever.
