Jesus is the Light
A reflection on a talk by Pastor David Pearson, by Susan.
Pastor David was visiting our meeting from Revival Church Auckland (New Zealand) assembly. He opened by first mentioning that the bible is not written in a chronologically way and we use the bible to understand prophecy.
Psalm 119: 105 – Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. This was the first scripture mentioned by Pastor David’s. To me this means that the Lord is our light, and will guide and direct our feet. The words of wisdom written in the bible are helpful tools for life. I find this scripture is great to remember when I hit an obstacle - I can reflect on God’s promises, that I will be helped through any challenging time no matter what comes my way. My Lord God is a light to guide me.
I cannot deny or forget God’s word is the truth. When I am confused or pulled in many directions that his blessings and power is in the word of God. I can trust and rely on God, and that he is a father that tells us what I need to hear.
Pastor David mentioned the Parable of the Sower and the Seed (Luke 8:5), that many are called and few are chosen. I need to ensure that I hear carefully and not be distracted by other things that could pull me away from the light.
Pastor David went on the mention a ‘sailboat analogy’. He was sailing a boat in the early hours of the morning, and there was no moon to guide him. He had to navigate in the dark only using his navigational maps and the lighthouse points that were marked on the edges of the surrounding islands. However, as he was sailing he noticed another light, although it was flickering and inconsistent he was unsure of where it was coming from and if he needed to consider this light, even though it was not marked on the map. After much deliberation he decided to ignore this light and trust the maps and sail forward to where he was originally heading. He then mentioned that this is like our walk. That we too could become distracted in life with other lights.
Pastor David referenced the scripture 2 Corinthians 11:14. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. This is our challenge as spirit filled Christians, to keep focused and to navigate through our life according to Gods word.
The closing scripture was 2 Peter 1:16, 19. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.
There is incredible wisdom in God and his message. That is, if I follow the words of the Lord and build my house metaphorically on a rock (God’s word) then I will have a solid foundation and be able to withstand any storm.
